nie przejmowałbym sie zdaniem kibicom, w większości to nie jest lotna grupa, myślą że gracz ma być ich niewolnikiem i tyle.
i think there is something slipping through the cracks in the coverage about the outrage that some of our supporters are feeling.
we had our fair share of players leaving on a free, forcing their way out or leaving to an rival in the last couple of years. may that be matip, kola, draxler, rakitic, özil or the judas manuel himself.
what is unprecedented though is the stink that this particular transfer is getting even from the official side of our club, not just the fans. draxler forced his way out in a very ugly way and the stink wasn't as big. kola and matip are very much welcome here at any time and it was a bittersweet goodbye, noone was mad either. helped obviously that they went abroad. özil, or rather his father, created an absolutely toxic enviroment and despite that, our chairman still keeps the door open for özil to end his career here. rakitic made a bit of a stunk and was moved on without any noise from the club at all.
even after the judas himself dried his crocodile tears our management was defending him and his choices publicly. and what neuer did to the club and the fans doesn't even compare in the slightest to the goretzka transfer.
in the end, goretzka was not a youth product from us. he was brought in from bochum. all he did was fullfill and honor his contract and then decided to move on. this usually is not a big deal in our club, it happens.
but what is absolutely new is our chairman clemens tönnies comming out of radiosilence and openly declaring that hes contemplating not letting goretzka play a single minute for the remainder of the season. it is important to note here that ever since heidel joined our management tönnies made a point of limiting his interaction with the media to an absolute minimum. and tönnies is the same guy that amongst all the hate directed to neuer in the wake of his transfer always publicly protected the guy. the public statement that heidel released was very biting, particulary for someone who's main objective at this club has to limit the media shitstorm that our club tends to create.
our management seems to be very angered by the way that the transfer unfolded, because of the way goretzka treated the club. if you look at the statement of both heidel and tönnies and combine it with the media coverage at the time the timeline of the transfer saga appears to be something like this:
end the last season bayern considers purchasing goretzka. his agent has been spotted at the bayern offices for a meeting. considering the statement puts out by goretzka and his agent afterwards they decline the transfer.
early summer 2017 goretzka agrees verbally to renew the contract and agrees on the terms with our boards. the lawyers on both ends meet up to hash out the details.
bayern reacts upon getting that info and signs tolisso for what is a club record fee.
knowing that the renewal is pretty much a formality at this point our board okay's letting goretzka go to the confed cup and decides against selling him this summer. knowing full well that letting goretzka join the confed cup outfit is a huge risk for a player that never really had a full pre season with the team due to his injury problems.
in private meetings during the confed cup, löw and bierhoff convince goretzka to join bayern. during a press conference bierhoff publicly states that "for goretzkas career it doesn't matter if he transfers to bayern this summer or next summer". he backtracks that statement as "speculation" after being heavily critized in the media for this statement.
post confed cup goretzka meets again with our board to finalise the deal. however, during the confed cup we changed our coach. he tells the management that he wants to wait out the development of the team under the new coach to pen his contract. in reality, he has his mind set to join bayern at the time already, but is well aware that his injury problems could quickly put an halt to that transfer so he plays the board. so the board decides once again to keep goretzka and elect to not sell him based on that decission, despite great offers flying in.
the season starts and our new coach has us play the best football we have played in years. every player publicly signs praises to tedesco's tactical prowess and man management, including goretzka.
the board approaches goretzka again about finalizing the renewal. knowing that his "out" of the renewal to sporting reasons is pretty much off the table at this point, goretzka argues that due to his increase status after the confed cup and the offers he has been given by other clubs that he would need an increased deal. he has no intention of ever signing that contract, so he and his management name outlandish sums (12 million a year, pretty much what lewandowski, robben and ribery earn at bayern). goretzka + his management gamble that schalke will not bite at that offer as it would more then double what we are currently paying our highest earners and with other cruicial renewals such as meyer around the corner would upset our internal wage structure too much for our board to bite. he hopes that with this way, he can have a gracious exit as kolasinac and matip, who both were also willing to renew, but we couldnt match their financial demands with what they have been offered from english clubs but also have a fail safe if he injures himself and the bayern transfer doesnt come through last minute.
goretzkas management leaks the conversation to the press to pile on the pressure on the schalke board.
against what goretzka envisioned, after deliberation our board agrees to match his ridiculous demands and after lots of pressure from the media, confirms so publicly. goretzka is now backed into the corner that he put himself in.
goretzka when asked publicly about his renewal states again that he wants to wait out the development of the team once more and that a decission will be made in january.
our board at this point is under the impression that with all the interactions they had with goretzka that the deal is still on. they sporting development is there, we are 2nd and playing good football. we gave him into his finacial demands and he gave his word for a renewal already. the bayern board however also knows at this point that goretzka is set on joining them and starts to act smug, which irritates our management. goretzka is forced to release another statement that there has been no decission to join bayern.
goretzka meets in person with tönnies and fesses up on his stallling tactics, that he blatantly lied to everyone involved at our club and that he had no intention of renewing the contract after the confed cup. lets tönnies know that he will join bayern on a free at the end of the season if his medical goes through.
our board doesn't take that too well. they know they now have been put into a very shitty situation with the upcomming renewals. our wage structure has been upset which will come in painfully for the renewals of meyer and nastasic, but we also lose out on our marquee signing that was supposed to usher in the era of the financially consolidated schalke that is willing to match the sporting ambitions the club has financially. feeling disrespected, played and lied to, our chairman states publicly that he is considering benching goretzka for the remainder of the season. our manager heidel releases a statement confirming publicly that there were several verbal agreements of goretzka and also tries to offload him during the winter "if rummenigge calls, im always open for discussion".
aside a few lunatics noone is mad about goretzka transfering to bayern to advance his career. instead, our board, our management and our fans are mad at goretzka for playing dirty during the the entire saga. all he had to do was let the board know that his intentions were to leave after he came home from the confed cup, which would have allowed the club to react to that information and would have allowed goretzka a clean exit, like pretty much everyone aside the judas has gotten. so to to answer your question in a short version:
tl/dr: he should have been honest with the board and allowed the club to react to his intentions. instead, he deliberatly caused a lot of financial harm, a public loss of face for our board and created a lot of unrest in our locker room. players have left our club before to advance their careers, including going on a free to bayern. the backlash that goretzka gets is not for his transfer, but how he behaved prior to it.
