More than a decade ago, during a coffee break, we started talking about movies that feature geologists. We counted a dozen different movies and began to wonder: how is our profession portrayed in the popular mass media?
.In summary, our profession is typically seen as an action-packed adventurous endeavour often perturbed by dramatic events, with minimal indulgence in singing or dancing. While the high count of ‘science fiction’ could be worrisome for the public perception of our science, a closer analysis reveals that in most of these movies the geologist is at least not guilty of any professional misconduct
