In 1883 a small group of friends around Han Dade, Carel Reeser and Floris Stempel founded a small football club. Dade was the owner of a real leather ball and a few years later Stempel became the first chairman when Ajax was officially founded in 1900. They first called the club 'Union', but in 1894 they changed this to 'Footh-Ball Club Ajax'.
