'Denilson 5. Defended okay-ish in the first half when the whole team was pressing, but was embarrasing defensively towards the end. His choice of pass is also laughably BAD most of the time. Wenger, you simply can't even be considering starting him at Goodison park and beyond.....'
'Another certainty that came out of this game was Denilson's complete ineffectiveness in everything. He is not a poor player, just not capable of doing what we're asking him to do. We need a defensive midfielder, Wenger must know this?'
'Agreed with Denilson, he epitomises purgatory. He isn't good, he isn't bad, he is just consistently average. How he has become a mainstay in our midfield, could only be answered by God himself.'
'Denilson seems to have started where he left of. I thought he could turn into a very useful player but he isn't showing signs of developing.
If Wenger isn't signing another midfielder we need to pray we see some tangible development and improvements in his game soon.'
'It wasn't even really a Gallas mistake. The defence pushed up to play the offside trap, but there was no pressure on the ball by Denilson and Fabregas, hence allowing the At. Madrid player all the time to make an incisive pass.'
'Arshavin showed that experience is everything. He played a decent game, but still got the 2 winners. We need that experience in the DM position. Denilson still does not cut it as our starter.'
'As for the first part of your post, I will literally cry if I have to watch Denilson starting in midfield for us on a regular basis this season. Cry I tell you!'
'We'll cry together. Seems inevitable, though, doesn't it? I'm seriously hurt by it. I'd never actually 'hated' an Arsenal player before Denilson. He gives away the most ridiculous fouls, fails to connect the easiest passes, and slows down our attack so much... there's just so much wrong with him that it seems laughable Wenger is willing to give him another try in this make or break season. Flamini took the first chance he got.'
'If Denilson starts regularly anywhere near our first team, we won't win anything. As simple as that.'
'I wake up everyday praying that we sign another defensive midfielder. I don't care if we don't sign anyone else.'
'I wouldn't say I hate Denilson. I hate the fact that Wenger keeps playing him. He just plays how he knows best, it's not his fault it's nowhere near good enough.
It will be a travesty of biblical proportions if we let this team, consisting of such ridiculously good forwards, become so fatally undermined by the lack of a similarly skilled defensive midfielder to make the whole thing work.'
'It's not even worth having a go at Denilson ... it's the manager that's at fault for the abuse he gets (Denilson). He really does need a new DM to take ome pressure off. It's so fecking irritating to see Denilson on every teamsheet.'
'We have the money. Just bloody do it. If you love Denislon so uch Wenger, then get a new guy in to take off the pressure.
And a new guy is the quality, experienced MOFO that we all know we need.'
'I think Denilson has been okay so far in the preseason.-Nobody said he hasn't been OK. OK is a little below what we need to win titles though.'
'Yesterday there were a few times where Denilson made some good tackles and won the ball but eventually lost out because he was then surrounded by two At.Madrid players and he had little choice but to play the ball backwards or lose the ball. Although, to his credit he tried a few diagonal balls yesterday which is good to see. Asking him to hold down midfield is unfair on both Denilson and the rest of the team.'
'And my opinion of him is that handing him a starting role last year was one of Wenger's bigger mistakes over the last 5 years.'
'The Denilson issue has been done to death. However if you can honestly dismiss the following points then you can defend him, if not then he is / was clearly not suited to his role last season.
1. He is a poor tackler overall.
2. He doesn't have awareness of opposition players runnig off him.
3. He doesn't pressure the CM's in front of him hard enough, allowing them time to pick passes with ease.
4. His passing was overall non constructive, too many short sideways passes and when he did try anything progressive he more often that not messed it up.
5. He deosn't offer the defence enough protection.
6. He lacks urgency when tracking back.
Point 2 and 6 are his major deficiencies and are teh reason why he can not be a starting midfielder for a club the size of Arsenal and are why it cant be said he had anything that resembled a successful season IMHO.'
